Infinite Recursion!!!!!! whooooooo!
I need a list of instances of infinite recursion in animation!
There’s a movie I remember seeing as a kid (I can only remember vague details–something about a girl hanging out with exotic talking animals) and it had a recursion loop of a tuna can to illustrate hallucination–the girl had stepped on a poisonous sea anemone, I think? One of my earliest memories of being tripped out by animation.
I tried searching for this movie/scene on my phone at 1 AM, and ended up falling into a rabbit hole. The internet is a weird, scary place.
The part about the girl stepping on poisonous sea life was from Dot and the Whale, but I’m still not able to track down that recursive tuna can animation loop–it might be part of the film since its message is related to the environmental impact of the fishing industry. I forgot how goofy most of the animation was in the Dot series, however there are some parts that stand out, in their own strange way. Like this foreboding and trippy Bunyip song.
Part 5! About 1 minute in… no cans involved, but there are some fish (tuna?) swimming around.
There it is! Thanks!
Did I just make up this tuna can thing? hmm… I’ll come across it eventually.
random track on my playlist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SuG0ctZvD0
when suddenly le wild robby & bobby update appeard…
works like charm :3
I really like all the stop motion in this video. The dance floor scene reminds me of The Book Club that Bobby and Miss Bluestocking sneak into!
hehehe, yeah your right.
by the way, i think the most accurate translation of that song would be “Groundhog Day” (like the movie with bill murray)
Is this song an homage to Bill Murray?! I might be getting my hopes up here… Meatballs is currently my favorite Bill Murray movie, because of this motivational speech. But there are so many good ones to choose from!
Sry dude, no.
It’s just more the phrase, bout the repetitive actions of us humans… like a phoenix always get back from the ashes, if you know what i mean ^^”
(i don’t know how to describe a german song in English)
I also love Bill Murray, btw. my Favorite Movie is Lost in Translation and i hate Zombieland, cause Bill Murray dies….
But i gonna watch Meatballs tonight, nice motivation speech.
I’m picking up what you’re laying down.
That part in Zombieland made me sad, too! My girlfriend is on a big Bill Murray kick this year, the year of “It Just Doesn’t Matter.” She’s making her way through every Bill Murray movie to get inspired.
I think you need to put a hypnosis warning on this page! I may never move again. Eventually someone is going to come looking for me and find nothing but a cobwebby pile of bones in front of my laptop, jaw agape, eye sockets still fixed on this comic.
You epitaph will read “She died as she lived: reading comics.”
The infinite loop. Awesome to see animated. Well done!
Thanks Chris! The music really brings the animation together. Love these animated gif experiments.
Very cool. Nice choice of track.
Thanks doc! My buddy turned me on to these guys awhile ago, and this song really resonated with me. I bought their album just so I could use it here!
